Isaiah 10 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus? As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria, shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images? Isaiah 10:9-11 – Context here is important to make sense of all this! The above verses were said to be spoken by the enemy nation of Assyria when they were about to begin attacking God’s people in Jerusalem. The unique names like Calno and Arpad were cities that the Assyrian’s easily conquered. In each of those cities were false idols that the people worshipped and hoped in to saved them from the hand of the Assyrians, but those idols provided no help. After many cities, and idols, being defeated, Assyria is now coming after Jerusalem and Jerusalem’s “idol,” which was the Lord. If no other idol could stop them, why would this God of Jerusalem be able to do any different? As history reveals to us, Assyria learned well that God is not like any of the idols of these other nations. He has breath and power and knows how to use them to bring Him glory and fulfill His purposes. With us today though, have we learned that God is different like this? That God is different than the flaky, untrustworthy things of this world? That God is different than the selfish, only seeking their pleasure sorts of things in this world? That God is different than the wicked, cruel things of this world? As with the Assyrians, we can view God like we see so many people and things in this world, but God is not like them. He is holy, good, loving, trustworthy, powerful, and kind. If then the option is available for you to choose whether to follow after a loving God or some unfaithful thing of this world, which will you choose? I love you, but Jesus loves you more - Mac

Question To Ponder: Why do you think people still choose something other than God to follow?
