Isaiah 16 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Give counsel; grant justice; make your shade like night at the height of noon; shelter the outcasts; do not reveal the fugitive; let the outcasts of Moab sojourn among you; be a shelter to them from the destroyer. Isaiah 16:3-4a – The prophecy spoken by Isaiah is still against Moab, and connecting with the previous chapter, the Moabites are on the run from their oppressors. After studying, I’m finding out that it is divided on the meaning for our verses above. Either its Isaiah speaking to Judah to help the Moabite refugees, or it’s the Moabites requesting help from Judah during their escape. Either way though, this passage opens our eyes to what help being given to those in need could look like coming from us. We can give counsel, pointing them in the right direction towards Jesus. We can show justice and mercy. We can give shelter and be a shelter for those who need it. We can protect from the enemy and let them exist in our life as they find their footing. As we continue to follow Jesus, know we will be called upon to help those who are hurting and who are seeking to turn from their sin. They will have the enemy on their tail, trying to bring them back into his grasp, but we can be the hands and feet of Jesus in their story protecting them and helping them stand firm for Christ. God is the power and strength, but we can be the avenue He uses in their life to bless and provide. How then would you respond today if God called you to be the shade for a sinner seeking to turn to Him? I love you, but Jesus loves you more - Mac

Question To Ponder: Why might a follower of Jesus refuse to help out someone in a situation like this?
